When a whole is divided into 2 equal parts, each part is one half.

The numerator is the number written above the line in a fraction. In 3/5, the numerator is 3.

When the numerator and denominator are the same, the fraction equals one whole.

When the denominator is the same, the fraction with the smallest numerator is the smallest. So 1/4 is smaller than 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4.
